A LOOK INSIDE

A working file, with the reasoning visible.

COMPLETED FICTIONAL EXAMPLEACTUAL WORKBOOK · SCROLL TO EXPLORE
Excel preview of the regulatory reporting fictional example, with editable inputs and calculated review checks
Actual workbook preview: expected total INR 1,220 lakh versus a draft total of INR 1,210 lakh. The unexplained INR 10 lakh difference remains open.

What the file calculates

Expected amount equals source plus signed adjustment. Difference equals draft less expected amount. Each line uses an explicitly entered tolerance; a zero total does not erase offsetting line exceptions.

What the package contains

Five sheets: Reconciliation, Exceptions, Reconciliation example, Exceptions example and Instructions. The checklist distinguishes calculation, authorisation, version and submission evidence.

USING THE TOOLKIT

A practical sequence for your team.

  1. Fix the reporting basis

Confirm the entity, reporting date, units and line definitions. Preserve the source extract and approved mapping version.

  2. Explain each difference

Record signed adjustments, evidence and reviewer decisions. Investigate differences at line level before considering totals.

  3. Control release

Retain the approved version and submission acknowledgement. A spreadsheet check is not a filing approval.

For banks

Use the applicable bank return instructions and entity perimeter. Check inter-system, ledger and cross-return differences at the relevant reporting date.

For NBFCs

Use the instructions applicable to the NBFC and return. Align portfolio extracts, financial records, units and reporting cutoffs before reconciling.
